What is RACES ?
Created in 1952, the Radio Amateur Civil Emergency Service or RACES, was formed primarily to serve in Civil Defense Emergencies. RACES is a special part of the amateur operation sponsored by FEMA and state/local Emergency Management organizations.
RACES provides essential voice and data communications and warning links to supplement state and local government assets during emergencies.
What is ARES ?
The Amateur Radio Emergency Service® (ARES), coordinated by the Amateur Radio Relay League, consists of licensed amateurs who have voluntarily registered their qualifications and equipment, with their local ARES leadership, for communications duty in the public service when disaster strikes. Visit the ARRL ARES website here.
